Ginny Pyatt

Executive Member

Ginny is currently the Principal at Modbury Special School and has extensive experience of Inclusive Education in mainstream Primary and High School as well as complex behaviours in the Special School setting.  She continues to advocate with the Department for flexibility around student placement pathways and appropriate funding for all students.

Ginny has been an educator for over 37 years. She worked in mainstream for 24 years in both country and metropolitan sites and in the disability sector for over 13 years. She has teaching and Leadership experience in this realm and also lived experience as a parent and a sound understanding of NDIS and how this works for families.

Ginny believes that providing a quality education begins with ensuring staff have the most up to date professional knowledge and practices to provide quality learning experiences for all students. Using play-based pedagogies to actively engage all learners is a goal Ginny continues to work towards. She is also a big believer in sharing the knowledge beyond the site to other schools and with the wider community.

Communication is essential, whether it be with families, staff, students or the community. Providing AAC, enabling choices and student voice is an ongoing strategy that she encourages across the site. She is open to the sharing of ideas and is always willing to learn new things to support the learning of both staff and students. “Behaviour is Communication” has always been the mantra and one that is wholeheartedly embraced at MSS.

Ginny looks forward to being a member of the SASEPLA Executive to provide opportunities to all educators in this highly important field of learning.
