President's Welcome

Hello and Welcome to SA SEPLA!

We are so pleased to have you consider our Association at such an exciting time. Our focus as an Association is to influence through innovation and change. Our members are passionate and highly skilled professionals who work very hard to develop their staff who in turn provide quality learning, care and engagement for all students.

We have an important role in education and we value your participation and support within the system. SA SEPLA provides an opportunity to shape the educational future in South Australia.  We consider that positive communication and cooperation between leaders in this specialised field is vital for the best possible learning outcomes for students with disabilities. We are committed to listening to your views and suggestions and invite your input. Please speak to us whenever you have questions or queries.

 How we innovate

We offer termly conferences including a 2 day conference with speakers sharing contemporary views linking to leadership and teaching. We are currently exploring high end professional development sessions for Special Class Teachers at an affordable cost. We showcase outstanding practice and encourage each other in this demanding role.

 How we influence

Our work with the Department for Education has enabled the introduction of ABLES into the Department for Education system. Department for Education State office directors and leaders also regularly link with us for feedback and input towards policies and State wide directions and initiatives. Members of the Executive attend Department for Education Stakeholder groups to represent you in future planning. We also link closely with the Primary Principals (SAPPA) and Secondary Principals (SASPA) associations and Universities ensuring the dialogue around teaching and learning for students disability is far reaching.

We offer annual awards for experienced and beginning teachers, ancillary staff and site projects to recognise the impact our professionals have in education.

 How we change

Students with disability are in every community, in every school and in every classroom. Having a voice through SA SEPLA enables the dialogue to grow the professional understanding of our colleagues, including teachers. This is a high end profession, we need high end teachers and leaders driving education forward.

 Our members

Our members include Special School Principals, Deputies and Leaders, Unit Coordinators and Special Educators who come from Department for Education metro, country and non-government settings. We welcome and encourage all leaders to join us.

 Yours faithfully
